901. Peachford Hospital

Peachford Hospital is a behavioral hospital located in Dunwoody, Georgia. Some sources mention a connection to Universal Health Services.

Media reports that the hospital is run in a very alternative way. An article talks about a child found in a freezer and a toe lost on another patient. The officials are not notified and when they do, the full extent of the incidents are not fully covered.

Some relatives question the treatment approach.

898. Northwoods Academy

Northwoods Academy is the Bibb County School District’s early childhood learning center opened in 2009. It services families with special-need children and the website of the school speaks about about a good environment for the children.

However an article from 2016 paints another picture about what is going on at the school. Violence against the students. It is not in line with what the website promises.

It cannot be fun to be there as a special-need student.

860. Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health

The chain of treatment facilities was found by Helena T. Devereux in 1912. The Devereux organization established their Texas department in 1959 and it is one out of many departments across the United States.

Searching on the facility articles speak of possible sexual attack on children and riots. An article points out that the management was not observant enough setting up guidelines which could have prevented these incidents.

Feedback from former patients on Google is not that positive

I use to live here. They played favoritism. When it was time for prom they told us if you walk out of school or anywhere else you will not attend prom but that was a lie. The counselors never cared. Never listened to you. I cant wait to show up one day to surprise everyone. Cause this place needs to be shut down. After me and another client left me and her still talked i told her i was pregant and told me someone from Devereux could take care of my baby. Umm what? The baby would have a better life. I miscarried. But for staff to still be connected with residents is a little disturbing. This place is not worth it. Dont come here EVER!

Horrible communication good luck getting any information after spending 3 days calling leaving messages and never getting a callback I tried the number my insurance company provided and spoke to a super rude disgruntled employee who informed me they were long term not short term(1-2months inpatient) facility which is NOT clearly stated on their website. 689. The Center for Safe Youth

The Center for Safe Youth is a so-called youth transport firm. It is a company, parents can hire to transport their children to a residential programs if they do not want to burden themselves with the emotional stress of breaking the news to their children that they will rather spend time on themselves rather than doing the hard work of parenting.

The process often starts with employees entering the room of the teenager in the middle of the night together with one of the parents telling the teenager that the teenager has to go with the employee who the teenager never have met before. Then the parent leave the house, so the employees are cleared of facing potential vitnesses who could testify against them if case of possible violence or other forms of molestation.

The companies operating within this industry has in the past been known to use various forms of mechanical restraints. The website of this firm does not state which forms of restraints or use of force the employees are allowed to use.

It must be very clear that the entire process of such a transport must be very traumatic or in clear violation of one of the first rules, parents learn their children: Never go with a stranger!

It is very clear that it cannot be fun to a teenager transported by a company like The Center for Safe Youth.

604. Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta

The Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta did not conduct a proper background check of their employees properly because they wanted to keep the costs of having employees low, so now the police are doing it for them. 3 times the police have arrested employees charging them with various crimes where the children became the victims.

It is safe to say that it cannot be fun to be at a facility where the police has to wait for crimes to happen before the employees can be ordered to act like the professionals they were supposed to be.

582. Milton Hershey School

The Milton Hershey School in Georgia allows underprivileged children attending a top of the line boarding school. It is a good idea. However if the children become ill suffering from mental issues they are not granted leave of absence while they undergo treatment. They are expelled.

Also it seems that some former students have been exposed to anti-gay video so they could be pressured to choose a partner of the opposite gender. It does not matter if the decisions were made by house parents. The school is responsible for hiring and directing how the student houses are run.

It does not sound to be a fun place to be if you choose a life-partner of your own gender or become victim of mental illness.

Today Darlington School is mostly known to have hidden abuse according to various media articles. An investigation was lanched to establish knowledge regarding the amount of teenager having beeen abused.

555. The Joy House

This so-called facility located in Jasper, Georgia is marketed as a Christian facility. However the way it is run does not sound like it is following the general concept of Christianity.

Testimonies from former residents sound like this:

I wish verbal abuse was as far as it went with the joy house but unfortunately physical abuse was present as well. Overall this was a completely deflating and saddening experience that will hopefully teach our family how to NOT act. Extremely disappointed in the judgement, abuse and heartache that was cause by this establishment. The path to Christ is not through these doors.

I was in a center for “troubled teens” in Jasper, Georgia known as The Joy House. They practiced physical punishment, conversion therapy on the lbgt community, and believed mental disorders were demon possessions. They fed stale, moldy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to residents that caused trouble and locked them in the bathroom for hours, sometimes days. After I attempted to run away I was locked in the bathroom for two days in nothing but my underwear. They ignored my complaints of pain which resulted in me landing in the hospital and having to have surgery for a kidney stone that was stuck. I was unable to urinate at this point and had a severe kidney infection. They refused to give any form of pain medication. They also ignored my need for birth control which resulting in me becoming anemic. I would have my period for 14 days and be off it for three before starting over. I went through a box of super tampons every three days. This is just a basic overview.

I was placed in there for good reasons, and I had requested a treatment program. I had severe ptsd after losing my virginity to rape and began to drink heavily and use substances (adderal and cocaine). I missed four months of school due to hospitalization and skipping school. My mother chose The Joy House for me and did not involve me in the decision. Her choice was made purely because it was Christian.

The Joy House has sense banned children with substance abuse issues or severe mental disorders. I use quotations around troubled teens because to be honest, most of us in there just had middle class parents that didn’t want to deal with them. One of my close friends was placed in there because she discovered her father was into some unsavory things (off limits because I do not wish to divulge her issues) and attempted to confront him. My roommate was in there because she got caught smoking weed.

My first job out of college (I have a psychology degree) was at a group home for teenage girls and we had two clients from the same rehabilitation center. They both reported similar situations to mine despite not knowing I had been a resident there. After receiving this information I issued a report to the Department of Family and Children Services. I was told DFCS cannot intervene due to them being a private organization.
What can you do?

It doesn’t sound like a fun place to be as a teenager.

539. Paramount Academy

Paramount Academy is run by Camelot Education (Which has origins from the infamous Brown Schools which closed around 2005 due to upcoming lawsuits which would have bankrupted them).

It seems that this alternative school is run like a prison and the school district responsible for the operations at the school closed their eyes instead of providing an oversight which could have ensured the safety of the students.

In one incident a police investigation resulted in conviction of two school employees for violence against a student and a try to cover up the incident. The school administration which urged the employees to cover up the violence was not convicted.

It cannot be a fun place to be as a teenager.

491. Edgewood Student Services

A 13-year-old student had to have amputated a part of his leg after a so-called trained specialist slammed his body on the ground after a dispute. The facility contains the AIM program, the Muscogee County School District’s alternative school for students who violate the district’s conduct code and are temporarily assigned away from their home school.

Now the facility tries to defend themselves by claiming that the specialist was not their employee but someone from a company used in an outsourcing agreement. However, that defense is not good at all. You cannot not hire people from other firms and deny any responsibility.

Fact is that the boy is missing a part of his leg. That is enough to make it safe to state that it cannot be fun to be there as a teenager.
