683. Poplar Springs Hospital

The Poplar Springs Hospital in Petersburg, Florida has been seen a number of cases where teenagers have run away. Also the reviews of former patients seem not to be that positive.

Here are some of the testimonies:

Had a horrible experience here, upon my arrival people were on me like leeches, multiple females wanted to fight me. I got into two fights, staff did nothing. A female bit me in front of staff and all they said was “Did she break skin” “looks fine to me”. The staff was nonchalant about everything. My family bought me my necessities and the staff claimed they “couldn’t find” my belongings. Poor experience, don’t do drugs.

I was here in 2015 for 7 days, I think. I was under a TDO and I got there really early in the morning and they took hours to finally get me onto the adolescent unit. I saw a lot of fights. I think I counted 11 fights in the 7 days I was there. I also noticed that they sent almost every single patient to the residential unit. I had to beg them to not send me to the residential unit. The staff was honestly a joke, minus like 2 people. I don’t even remember going to groups or my court hearing. Literally, the only good thing that came out of it was they gave me nicotine patches with my moms permission.

Running as hospital for minors require supervision. It seems that the hospital does care more about profit than the safety of the patients. It cannot be fun being a teenage patient in this hospital.

682. Open Door Baptist Church

The Open Door Baptist Church is not a good place to be as a minor. Not only there is the risk of sexual abuse as it too sadly is very common in religious communities. At this church abuse was not reported when it was discovered. The police arrested the leader of the church due to his failure to report the abuse.

It could not have been fun to be a child without protection of responsible adults at this church.

681. Hjemly Fri – og Idrætefterskole

Once again a teacher was able to create an improper relationship with a student. Once again the schools say it is a single incident. Once again it creates the need for more oversight of these boarding schools.

Parents should be able to see a stay at one of these boarding schools as safe when it comes to having a child being preyed upon by an adult. Especially when it is a hard choice to send you child to these boarding schools. Danish business organizations want these schools to go away. They consider the boarding schools as a kind of unwanted timeout in a decade where it has been the goal for a number of Danish governments to push the teenagers faster through the education system so they can start to serve in firms sooner.

When a stay in these schools are seen as counterproductive, they should not be seens as a threat also. It is time to demand more oversight. It cannot be fun to be at these school being preyed upon by an adult.

680. University of Utah’s Madsen Health Center

The University of Utah’s Madsen Health Center has been the center of a lawsuit. When teenagers does to the doctor – especially when they are in the process of becoming adult and more intimate examinations are needed it is important that they are not done when the doctor is alone.

Now a 13 year old girl felt herself violated. It did not help the situation that the doctor threatened with a stay at one of the residential treatment facilities when almost every teenager now knows that the treatment facilities are worse than prisons.

It cannot be fun to be committed to this hospital with such a lose practice towards younger patients.

679. Swan Valley Youth Academy

Swan Valley Youth Academy was a military styled academy located near Condon in Montana closed in 2006 after an investigation showed that it was not managed in a safe and correct manner.

It could not have been fun to be there as a teenager.

678. Vanguard school

The Vanguard School is located near Lake Wales in Florida.

The staff seems to conduct little oversight over the facility which has resulted in abuse among the students.

It cannot be fun to be there as a teenager.

677. Boarding school in Cheromushk, Chelyabinsk Region

At a boarding school for orphans residents told of alleged rape. Now the authorities are investing this awful crime.

It could not have been fun to be there as a child.

676. Flagstaff Comprehensive High School

At Flagstaff Comprehensive High School girls were made to perform extra for higher grades. In the end one of the girls became pregnant due to the part extra-curricular activities the girls had to take part in as a price for higher grades.

675. Ashdown House

This boarding school was founded in 1843 in Brighton and moved to its present location around 1886. For many years it was only for boys but started to accept students of both genders in 1975. Lately it was revealed that at least one teacher took his liberties with the boys resulting in a prison sentence.

It is safe to conclude that it could not have been fun to be there and become the center of such bizarre interests of a teacher.

674. Gavhunga Secondary School

Gavhunga Secondary School is an illegal boarding school located in the Kadoma region in Zimbabwe. It is not registered as a boarding school in the so-called department of education in Zimbabwe. Some of the students were abused by adults where they lived and because the boarding school was not registered as such, none monitored allowing the abuse to discovered.

It could not have been fun to be there as a teenager.
