272. Zhengzhou Boqiang New Idea Life Training School

Zhengzhou Boqiang New Idea Life Training School has marketed itself as a cure against the so-called Internet Addiction Disorder, which was introduced as an illness after pressure from the troubled teenage Industry so they could get more clients.

The methods to cure this so-called illness is punishment, isolation from peers and family and if it doesn’t cure the illness – pure violence.

A 19 year old girls lost her life at this boarding school may 2014.

It is safe to say that it is not a fun place to be for a teenager.

271. Bessborough House, in County Cork (Ireland)

Children born outside marriage was regarded as shameful for the mother and her family, so the children were often sent to homes hidden from the local communities.

It seems that some of the children were used as guinea pigs in vaccine trials. Some of the children were hurt in the process. Some might even have died. It is not clear if that happened because for obvious reason records were not kept because people realized that it became a dark chapter of Irelands history.

It couldn’t have been fun to be there as a teenager, if a child made it that far in this home.

270. Adirondack Leadership Expeditions

Adirondack Leadership Expeditions was a wilderness program which was open between 2003 and 2013. Local citizens were worried about the presence of the teenagers as result of some of the teenagers having escaped the program.

The program used muscle men to drag teenagers to the program. Due to the large forest an expedition even got lost and had to be rescued.

A former student writes:

After a five or six hour drive we arrived in the Adirondack mountains. I remember being taken out of the car and up to the room where the director of the program was. About eight staff members were standing around me in the room and they asked me a bunch of questions about how i felt. I didn’t’t’t feel particularly good at the moment and then the drove me out to a forest. It was snowing out and the temperature was -10. They told me to take off my clothes
so I could get into gear. I was outside without clothing for i guess about five minutes and then I was blindfolded and guided through the woods where the staff gave me my course book. I spent my first three nights with two staff before i went to my actual group. When i met the group i was with a bunch of kids in the same situation. During my entire stay in wilderness it was freezing outside. There were some nights it was so cold they had to let us use tents they
use on the base camp of Mount Everest. There was one day I remember it was so
cold i could not move my fingers

It could not have been fun to be there as a teenager.

Tierra Blanca Ranch was marketed as a working ranch for at-risk teenagers. The parents who sent their sons to this ranch would properly not imagine that their boys would end up in shackles but that is the case.

From the very start there was problems with licesing. A young man died while attending the ranch because he feel of a car. There was no seatbelts for his position.

In the end the authorities had to issue an Amber Alert to find the last boys.

It does not sound like a fun place to be as a teenager.

267. Rancho Valmora

265. Shortridge Academy

Shortridge Academy was founded by a former student from CEDU who wanted to re-create the same kind of enclosed boarding school he went to.

A couple of years a documentary about CEDU and the long-term emotional damages this program inflicted on its former students was put on. As result enrollment at the CEDU-clone schools dropped. A parent to a student at Shortridge Academy writes:

This school was an utter disapointment. Enrollment has fallen to the point where there are now only about 20 kids at the school, and there is an absolute lack of resources and staff to accomplish what they represent they will do for the kids. The staff is augmented by half trained college students. My child arrived at this school from a wilderness school, and he was an absolute joy. Now, after almost a year he has regressed to being disobedient and defiant. All through this time I was told to just wait, that my child could be helped, and that my child was the perfect student. After about $100k I’ve come to recognize that none of this is true. There has not been any perceptible improvement in behavior or attitude. I feel as though I’ve been defrauded. I don’t know if other theraputic boarding schools have better results, but this one failed in every respect for me and my child. Sorry. Just my honest opinion.

Greatschools review – might have been removed by the schools marketing department

Axios Youth Community has been around since the 1990’s living quietly in the industry. 2012 the police investigated the program after a male employee was suspected of improper behavior towards the girls. As result the state removed some of the children and the organization accounced the closure of the Ute Pass facility.

Being forced to live apart of the social network without anyone to turn to if an adult employee act improper cannot be fun for any teenager.
